Krishnasar Pass rests at an elevation of 4080 meters above sea level & is situated in the vicinity of Gadasar Lake, which is famous as Botanist's Paradise. The lake stretches up to 0.85 kilometers and has a width of 0.76 km. Surrounded by alpine flowers, the lake remains frozen during November and April. Vaishnosar Lake and Krishansar Lake are some of the other nearby tourist attractions.

Located around 20 km from Sonamarg, this lake is one of the prominent tourist attractions in the valley of Kashmir. During summer, this lake is surrounded by lush green grasslands & freezes during winter. The Krishansar Lake and the glaciers are the sources of Vishansar Lake. This lake flows out through a small stream and further divides in two, of which one serves as a source to the Neelum River while the other becomes a tributary of the Nallah Sindh. To reach Vishansar Lake by road, tourists can take NH 1D to Shitkadi Village, &  hire ponies covering another 20 km.

Gangabal Lake, situated at an elevation of 3570 meters above sea level, rests at the foot of Mount Haramukh, the highest mountain peak in the valley of Kashmir. Also known as Harmuk Ganga, the lake measures 2.5 km in length and 1 km in breadth and is one of the sources of the River Jhelum. Tourists who enjoy fishing can go trout fishing in this lake. An annual fair is organized here in the third week of August, which is one of the biggest attractions of this place.

Certain parts of this pass can be a bit of a dangerous ride & one must travel down only with a seasoned driver, used to such steep and playful turns and roads. By Air - Sheikh ul Alam Airport, commonly known as Srinagar Airport is the nearest airport to Sonamarg, which is located at a distance of around 70 kms from Sonamarg. The airport is well connected with important Indian destinations such as Shimla, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Delhi.

 

By Rail - The nearest railhead to Sonamarg is Nowgam Railway Station, also known as Srinagar Railway Station. It located at a distance of 70 kms from Sonamarg but it is not well connected with the rest of the Indian rail network. Jammu Tawi Railway Station is the nearest major rail link to Sonamarg, which is well connected with all the important Indian cities.

 

By Road - Sonamarg is well connected with nearby places such as Srinagar and Jammu via buses. Tourists can avail J&K State Road Transport Corporation bus services to reach Sonamarg from Jammu and Srinagar. Special luxury buses are also available for the destination.

 

Local Transport - To travel around in the town, buses are the best option as they have good frequency inside the city. But if wanting to explore the city at leisure, one can opt for a tanga ride a horse carriage.
