Alleppey is an aquatic paradise within the folds of God's own country & is aptly called Venice of the East & blessed with several waterways, lagoons, lakes, & canals. Raja Keshawadasan, Divan of Travancore, founded this lively town. While sailing on houseboats in Alleppey, one can witness the charm of this immaculate backwater town with its plentiful coconut palm-lined canals and small hamlets. 

Alleppey is an ideal place to spend a wonderfully romantic time. It is a beautiful location with an abundance of flora and fauna & the presence of numerous religious & historical attractions & so much more to capture makes Alleppey one of the most attractive places in south India. 1: Krishnapuram Palace

Krishnapuram Palace, named after the adjacent Temple of Krishnapuram, has seen centuries of changes. It showcases the traditional style of architecture native to the land. The Palace is atop a hillock, surrounded by lawns beautified by fountains and ponds. It gives a royal experience of Kerala apart from the many historical exhibits such as mural paintings, coins, & sculptures.

Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple, an ancient symbol of heritage, is said to have been constructed by the ruler of the land, Chembakasserry Pooradam Thirunal Devanarayanan Thampuran, 790 AD. While the Sankam is an oft-seen symbol associated with Lord Visnu and his many incarnations, Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple is one of the few rarities with its presiding deity wielding a whip. This temple has a mythological connection to the famous Guruvayurappan.

Karumadi Kuttan is memorabilia situated in Alleppey, dated as far back as the 9th century & is the only Buddhist temple in Kerala.

This island is usually a spot in route on the backwater cruise. It is 13 kilometers from Alleppey and is accessible via boats in about half an hour.

Chavaran Bhawan is the ancestral home of one of the leading luminaries of the Christian faith, the Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara & his home is now a holy shrine. Almost three centuries old, this symbol of Christian antiquity is a refuge for Christians to gather, pray and retreat into themselves to find the pinnacle of spirituality in repose and serenity. Located around six kilometers from Alleppey, the Chavaran Bhawan is only accessible by boat.

St. Sebastian's Church is a prime site for Christian pilgrimage. St. Sebastian is said to have built this church in the first century. One of the only seven other churches to be established by St. Sebastian, this church has a rich history. The most famous festival associated with this church is the Arthunkal Perunnal, a ten-day fest held in honor of its patron, St. Sebastian. The church is 23 kilometers away from Alleppey & well connected in terms of transport.

By Rail - Alappuzha has a major rail line that is managed by the Southern Railway. It connects to all cities in North and South India such as Trivandrum, Cochin, Chennai, Bokaro and Mumbai. 

 

By Road - National Highway passes through Alappuzha and connects the city to Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kollam, Kochi and Trivandrum.

 

Bus Route - Alappuzha has a bus terminus that connects the city to nearby cities such as Munnar, Madurai, Palakkad, Ernakulum, Mysore etc. Plenty of private and KSRTC buses are available to and fro from the city.

 

By Water - The interesting local ferries are operated by the Kerala Water Transport Department from Alappuzha to different nearby islands through the backwaters both up and down.

 

Local Transport - Travelling within Alleppey is not a problem as there is abundant number of local buses, auto rickshaws and taxis. Boats and ferry services are the best way to travel places such as Kuttanad, inaccessible by road. Many of Alleppey's attractions are easily accessible by foot.
