About Amravati

Amravat literally means 'the city of immortals', Amravati from long had its place of honour in both legend and history & is also known as "Ambanagari",  whiich is a district in the Indian state of Maharashtra & is the 8th most populous metropolitan area in the state.  It is said that Amravati is named for its ancient Ambadevi temple.  The ancient proof of existence of Amravati can be derived from stone carved inscription on the base of marble statue of God Adinath (Jain God) Rhishabhnath. Udumbaravati was the ancient name of today's Amravati and was due to the presence of huge number of Audumber trees in the region.

i) Achalpur - The place formerly known as Ellichpur and Illychpur, is a city and a municipal council in Amravati District. It is located 54 KM towards North from District head quarters Amravati.

1: Ambadevi Temple
AMBADEVI TEMPLE
The Temple is located at Dastur Nagar Rd, New Colony, Dastur Nagar, Amravati and is the oldest and most important temple of the entire district.The temple illustrates very old sculptures, engraved on walls and presiding deity is Amba Devi (Goddess of Shakti). According to mythology, it is believed that Shri Krishna married Rukmini after abducting her when she came to pray at the Amba Devi temple. The people of Amravati conduct mandatory puja of Goddess Amba before marriage or any other ceremony.  
 
2: Satidham Temple
SATIDHAM TEMPLE
The temple is located in the heart of city at Rallies Plot. This  temple  was  founded by Madhusudan Shivchandrai Jhunjhunwala on dated 10th July  1975. The temple is known for beautiful idols of Rani Sati Dadiji, Lord Radha - Krishnaji, Ram Darbar,  Lord  Ganeshji, Lord Shiv Parivar, Lord Hanumanji, Khatu Shyam Baba, Pitreshwar & Gowshala placed within the temple. Every year grand fair is arranged on the occasion of Janmashtami, attended by lots of devotees.  
 
3: Chikhaldhara
CHIKHALDHARA
Chikhaldara is a hill station located about 100 kilometers north of Amravati and is the only coffee growing area in Maharashtra. Chikhaldara is full of wildlife, viewpoints, lakes, waterfalls & deep valleys, and these valleys are full of velvet mist and majestic trees. The main attractions apart from its natural scenic beauty of Chikaldara are the Melghat Tiger Project, Dhakana-Kolkaz National Park, Hurricane Point, Prospect Point, Devi Point, Panchbol Point (4 km from Bir Lake), Bir Lake (Artifical Lake), Gavilgad and Narnala Fort, the Pandit Nehru Botanical Gardens, the Tribal Museum and the Semadoh Lake. There are also good range of accomodation facilty available from Hotels to MTDC Chikhaldara Convention Complex but even although advance booking is advisible during season i.e from October to February.  
 
4: Shri Bhakti Dham Temple
SHRI BHAKTI DHAM TEMPLE
The Temple is located at Badnera Road in Amravati and is devoted to Lord Krishna and Radha, complex also houses an idol of Shri Sant Jalaram Bappa. Behind the temple there is a small beautiful and enjoyable park which is often a place where children play.  
 
5: Chatri Talao
CHATRI TALAO
The place is located at 1 km South East of Amravati, from Dasturnagar Square on Malkhed Railway Road & was built in the year 1888 on a small spring called "Kali Nadi". This talao is visited by tourists in large number due to the small garden and boating facility available at the site.

The place is located on Chandur Railway Road, about 3 km away from Amravati. This place offers scenic beauty, boating experience, nearby zoo and a garden.  It’s a best weekend getaway specially in the evenings for the whole family to have fun.  
 
7: Melghat Tiger Reserve
MELGHAT TIGER RESERVE
Melghat is located in Chikhaldara on the southern offshoot of the Satpura Hill Range & was declared a tiger reserve and was among the first nine tiger reserves notified in 1973-74 under the Project Tiger. The main spieces found here are Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, sloth bear, Ussuri dhole, Indian jackal, sambar, gaur, barking deer, nilgai, chital, chausingha, ratel, flying squirrel, wild boar, langur, rhesus monkey, porcupine, pangolin, mouse deer, python, otter and blacknaped hare.   
 
8: Wan Sanctuary
WAN SANCTUARY
The Sanctuary is located in the southwestern edges of Melghat Tiger reserve & has a glorious mythical connection, it is believed that Bheema (the Pandava) killed the Prince Keechaka and threw his body in to this valley. Thus the name Chilkahrada evolved from the prince name Keechaka. The sanctuary is extensively rich with flaura and fauna that includes Teak, Air, Tiwas, Dhawda, Kusum, Moha Bamboos, TectonaGrandis, Aola, Lendia, also medicinal plants and bamboo and animals like Tigers, Leopards, Hyena, Wild Dogs, Bison, Sambar, Barking Deer, Wild boar and many more. Best time to visit is between June to October. There are rest houses at Dhargad, in the Melghat Tiger Reserve for accommodation of tourists.

Airport - Amravati airport is located in Bolera about 16 kms from city but does not have scheduled commercial flight services as of yet. The other nearest Airport is Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur, 136 Kms from the town Connecting flights to major Indian cities.
Railway Station - The city is served by Amravati railway station which is connected with Badnera Junction  Nai Basti, Amravati and is well connected to the major cities of India.
