About Annaba

Annaba, informally known as Balad al-Unnab, is a city in the northeastern corner of Algeria near the Seybouse River, located in an eponymous province. With a population of 257359, it is the fourth largest city in Algeria. It is a leading industrial center in eastern Algeria. Annaba is a coastal city and has undergone significant growth. Much of eastern and southern Algeria seeks the services, equipment, & infrastructure of the city. Economically, it is the center for various dynamic activities, such as industry, transport, finance, and tourism. Present-day Annaba grew up on the site of Aphrodisium, the port of the Roman city. The modern town has since expanded south over Hippo's ruins as well. 

The vicinity of Annaba has yielded evidence of very early human occupation at Ain el Hanech, near Saida, including artifacts that show remarkable tool-making craftsmanship. According to some sources, prehistoric Algeria was the site of the most advanced development of flake tool techniques in the Middle Early Stone Age.

1: Hippo Regius
Hippo Regius
A visit to Hyppone allows seeing the ruins of various ancient structures. Hippone, are among the most evocative in Algeria stretched across a rolling site with full of flowers, olive trees, birds and animals and overlooked by the imposing, colonial era Saint Augustine Church. Those of a forum and theatre, which once boasted one of the largest stages in Africa, are included in the ruins. The museum features a fine collection of mosaics and their courtyards marked by columns and some of the walls and floors still visible.

On the hill above the Hippo Regius site, this museum displays many of the treasures found there and elsewhere in the vicinity of the town. The ground floor has a good collection of sculpture including the Emperor Vespasian which was found in the Hippo Regius Forum. The star piece of the museum, though, is the unique 2.5 mts high Trophy, a bronze representation of a post on which is hung a cape and military armour.  
 
3: Basilica De Saint Augustine

The Catholic Basilica of St. Augustine is one of the symbols of the city of Annaba. The basilica was erected on the site of the old Christian Church, where he served as Augustine of Hippo until death, philosopher, theologian, preacher and one of the founding fathers of the Christian Church. Sitting on the top of a hill, the basilica offers a glimpse into the state and history of Christianity in this part of the country. A walk in the gardens of Basilica Saint Augustine offers a full view of the Bay of Annaba.   
 
4: Port De Stora

Take a walk around Port de Stora to enjoy the views of the open sea and to try the local cuisine. This ledge is very well kept beautiful and leads to the fishing port very nice and upstream of a mountain that offers scenery breathtaking. The area's amenities include restaurants and scuba diving outfits and organized tours to popular diving spots, the restaurants are at the edge of the promenade.

The blue water Ain Achir Beach is considered as one of the most beautiful places in Annaba and offers a breathtaking sea view. There is much kind of water sporting facilities offered on the beach. Climbing a bit higher towards the Cape of guard provides a more impressive view of the place.

Hammam Debagh Hot Springs
Located in Guelma, Hammam Debagh hot springs offer scenic views with a beautiful multicoloured waterfall. Salt form a layered structure there are numerous hot springs which are considered to have healing properties a very unusual spectacle. It is a very beautiful place.

How To Reach Annaba

By Air - Annaba is best reached by air. Its airport, Rabah Bitat International Airport has regular services to Paris, Marseille, and Lyons. However, these frequencies aren't frequent and one should check an Air Algerie timetable when planning a trip. Annaba also has regular service to Oran.

By Sea - There is a ferry service from Marseille to Annaba operated by, Ferries Algerie.

By Road - One can also reach Annaba by road quite easily from most major Algerian cities. However, due to the lack of quality infrastructure this is the least desirable option.
