1: Madikeri

Madikeri is the place from where the Kaveri River originates. Located on top of a lush green hill, Madikeri in the Coorg district is complete with cascading waterfalls, lush tea and coffee plantations, and total peace and tranquility amidst nature at its best. Named after its ruler, Mudduraja, Madikeri, or Mercara as it is also known, offers a whole gamut of experiences for the visitor. Trek around town and in the neighboring hills for that refreshing atmosphere that can rejuvenate the senses in a jiffy.

2: Madikeri Fort

Madikeri Fort is a mud fort built by Mudduraja in the last quarter of the 17th Century & fort was rebuilt with stone by Tipu Sultan with secret underground passages. Today it is a museum under the Archaeological Department of India. It has become the home to some of the historical artifacts & a section dedicated to Field Martial Cariappa.

3: Dubare Forest Reserve

The dense forests of Dubare in Karnataka are famous for their elephant camps, where visitors can have an experience with the gentle giants. The Dubare forest reserve area is in Coorg, on the banks of the river Kaveri. This place has traditionally been an elephant training ground. The hilly terrain of this forest is ideal for trekking & rafting is also a popular option here. There are many beautiful trekking trails, and one of the most popular trails is the one that leads to Iruppa Falls.

4: Bylakuppe

Bylakuppe is the second biggest Tibetan settlement in India, after Dharamshala. It is just a 6kms distance from Kushalnagara. There are two Tibetan settlements, Lugsum Samdupling & Dickyi Larsoe, in which thousands of Tibetan refugees live in exile. Tibetan monasteries, tourist-oriented Tibetan eateries, and handicraft shops are all over this place. The main attraction in Bylakuppe is the Golden Temple or Namdroling Monastery, which adheres to the typical Tibetan style of architecture and appears as a pleasant surprise in South India. The golden color 40 ft tall idols of Padmasambhava, Buddha, and Amitayus are heavily decorated and awe-inspiring.

5: Harangi Dam Site

Tourists visit the Harangi Dam Site during their journey to Dubare. Constructed across the Dubare Forest over a small rivulet of the Kaveri River near Kushalnagar, this dam is around 846 meters in length with 47 meters in height.

6: Nisargadhama Wildlife Sanctuary

Nisargadhama Wildlife Sanctuary is a must-visit attraction of Coorg. It is an island located amid the Cauvery River and linked to the mainland by a bridge made of ropes. Elephants, deer, rabbits, and peacocks & along with these bamboo groves, sandalwood trees, and teak trees, are also found at this sanctuary. Tourists can also enjoy several activities, such as boating and elephant rides at this sanctuary. For travelers, there are some residential cottages where they can lodge on their trip.

7: Rajas Seat

Raja's seat is one of the prominent sites of Madikeri of Coorg District. It's a garden of seasonal flowers & beautiful fountains. These fountains are musical & the gush-colored water is too loud rhythmic music. The Raja's seat is a small pavilion made of brick and mortar, supported with four pillars and bridged by arches. Raja's seat, built at a higher level from the nearby cliffs & valleys, provides a mesmerizing view of the surroundings.

8: Talakaveri

Talacauvery is a holy pilgrimage for the Hindus. Located at the Brahmagiri hills & considered to be the origin of the river Kaveri, it is situated 1276 meters above sea level. The river originates as a spring supplying water to this tank. The water then flows underground to emerge as the Kaveri River at some distance. This tank is considered a holy place to bathe on special days.

9: Burude Falls

Burude Falls gets its name from the word Burude which means skull in Kannada. The falls are on Siddapur Kamta Road. The best time to visit the falls is during winter and early summer. There is a small creek through which a tourist can trek to reach the falls during summer. The tourists can sit and enjoy the gushing sound and splashing water forming mist around the falls.

10: Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary

Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is between Wayanad of Kerala in the south and Coorg of Karnataka in the north. It is on the Western Ghats & Brahmagiri is the highest peak of this sanctuary, & is 60 km from Coorg. The forest here is dense and full of evergreen trees & is one of the favorite places for trekkers.

11: Abbey Falls

Situated just 8 km from Madikeri town, Abbey Falls is one of the most visited spots of Coorg. Appearing suddenly at the end of a narrow lane that passes in between the thick bushes of the private coffee plantations and the spice estates, Abbey Falls makes us surprised by the roaring sound that shatters the tranquillity of the environment.

12: Bhagamandala Coorg

Bhagamandala is a holy pilgrimage for the Hindus. Situated at the confluence of Kaveri and its tributary Kannike, the mythical river Sujyothi is said to have joined from underground at this point. It is considered a sacred river confluence and is called Triveni Sangama.

13: Nagarhole National Park

Tourists on a trip to Nagarhole town must visit the Nagarhole National Park, which forms a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Coorg is home to the famous Namdroling monastery, also called the Golden temple, because of the gold work done on every painting. Namdroling Monastery is just 6 km from the town of Kushalnagar and 35 km from Madikeri. It is a typical Tibetan monastery presided over by an 18 meters high gold-plated Buddha. The paintings inside the temple describe the gods, demons, culture, & also some of the phases of Buddha's life.

Iruppu Falls is a freshwater cascade in the Brahmagiri Mountain range in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. By Air - The nearest airport to Coorg is Mangalore International airport, which lies at a distance of 165 kms from Coorg. From here on tourists can take a cab to reach Coorg.

By Road - Coorg is well connected by road from the main cities of South India. Tourists can catch deluxe KSRTC buses to Coorg from Mangalore, Bengaluru and Mysore.

By Train - Nearest railway station to Coorg is Mysore at a distance of 95 kms. Tourists can hire a taxi from Mysore to reach Coorg. Alternatively, one can also hop on a bus which runs from outside the railway station to Coorg.
