Dhamtari is one of the oldest municipality regions with an average elevation of 317 meters in the Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh state in India. The city is located in the fertile plains of Chhattisgarh. Dhamtari is a concise form of two terms Dhamma and Tarai. The town of Dhamtari is situated at a very scenic location with Mahanadi as its principal river. The city offers quite a few attractions to its visitors with easy accessibility to the nearby capital of Raipur. There are quite a few major dams that have been built over the years around the region which serve as tourist destinations. The Gangrel Dam here is worth a visit as it is the longest and biggest dam in the state of Chhattisgarh. The fertility of Dhamtari region is attributed to the presence of its tributaries which are the Sendur, Pairy, Sondur, Joan, Kharun and Shivnath. A host of temples make Dhamtari a semi religious pilgrimage centre with the Bilai Mata Temple being the most popular attraction among all. The domination of Paddy as the main agricultural crop here has transformed the region into a major agricultural producer. Besides this a number of products are being exported from the nearby forest areas too. One can find enormous levels of lead deposits within the region of Dhamtari. The chemical and timber industries have boomed in a big way along with rice and flour mills scattered all over the place.

Gangrel Dam is a ver famous tourist spot amongst the visitors travelling to Dhamtari. The Dam is situated in Dhamtari district, and lies about 15 km from the city, it is popularly known as Ram Shanker Sagar Dam. It is the longest dam in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, it is constructed across the river Mahanadi.
Madamsilli Dam is a dam built on Sillari River in the Dhamtari district of Indian state of Chhattisgarh built in 1914-1923. It lies around 20 km approx. from the city. It is also spelled as Mordem Silli and Murrum Silli Dam.
Sitanadi wildlife sanctuary is a major tourist attraction among the travellers and is located around 60 km approx. from the city. The sanctuary was established under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 in the year 1974. The sanctuary is named after river Sitanadi that originates from this sanctuary and joins river Mahanadi near Deokhut.
Kanker Palace is avery famous tourist and a picnic spot in Dhamtari and it comprises of a very beautiful garden and a well decorated sitting area. A part of this historic palace has been converted into a heritage hotel. The hotel is maintained by the Royal family itself and the Royal family also resides in the palace complex.

🚌 By Road - The city of Raipur is located at a distance of seventy six kilometres to the north of Dhamtari and regular buses will be available in this route for minimal fares. Tourists can either travel to Dhamtari directly or visit the town through Raipur.
