About Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur is one of the major and laegest city with rich cultural and historical importance in the Indian state of UttarPradesh. The city is located along the banks of river Rapti, and the city is very close to Nepal border. The city Gorakhpur is named after Guru Gorakshnath a saint that performed “Hath Yoga” where now exists the Gorakhnath Temple which is one of the major tourist attraction of the city. The city is also famous for Chauri Chaura Incident during British. Gorakhpur city is the place where famous Indian Revolutionary Ram Prasad Bismil was hanged by Britishers for Kakori Train Robbery case.

1: Lumbini
LUMBINI
Lumbini is a religious place and is said to be the birth place of Gautam Buddha, situated near the Nepal-India border. Lumbini has a number of temples, including the Mayadevi Temple and several others which are still under construction and monuments, monasteries and a museum, the Lumbini International Research Institute, are also present at the holy place. A Holy Pond where the Buddha's mother took the ritual dip prior to his birth and where he had his first bath is also there at this holy site.

The planetarium has the world's most advanced planetarium equipment based on full dome digital technology. This planetarium has a sitting capacity of about 395 visitors. The planetarium offers three organised daily shows and the timings of the show are 1.00 p.m. is in english and 3.00 p.m. & 5.00 p.m. in hindi. The planetarium remains closed on monday.

6: Gorakhnath Temple
GORAKHNATH TEMPLE
Gorakhnath Temple is named after the 'Hatha Yoga'guru, Guru Gorakhnath who learned his lessons in austerities from the founder of Nath Sampradaya, Guru Matsyendranath. The temple is situated exactly in the heart of the city on Gorakhpur-Sonauli state highway in 52 acre area of land. Every year on Makar sankranti a huge mela is being organised in the temple in which thousands of devotees appears to visit the mela. In the temple there burns a flame known as Akhand Jyoti, it is believed that this flame is burning since Treta Yug. There also exists a Mahabali Bhimasen Temple, Bhimsen Sarovar and Durga Temple in the premises of the Gorakhnath Temple. As per the mythology when Bhimasena arrived in the temple to invite Guru Gorakhanath to attend the Rajsuya yagna, he was in Samadhi so he has to wait for a while since Bhimsena was a heavyweight, it is said that a portion of earth sank below. The Bhimsarovar contains holy water of all Pilgrimages in India, nowdays sarovar has been turned into a boating site by the authorities of the temple.
