For several cottage handloom industries popularly known as Manchester of Assam, Sualkuchi (also known as Soalkuchi) is one of the world's largest weaving villages where the entire population is engaged in weaving exquisite silk fabrics. A renowned center of silk production, particularly Muga, the golden silk of Assam, which is not produced anywhere else in the world. This town is in the Kamrup district of Assam, about 35 km from Guwahati.

Located just 65 KM from Guwahati town at the foot of Garo hills, surrounded by Assam and Meghalaya, an earthquake-born Chandubi natural lake is blessed with rich flora and fauna. The place is calm & peaceful, covered by deep forest, tea garden, and small and distinct villages. It is natural sightseeing and one of the best picnic spots for visitors to the state. This lake attracts a sizable amount of migratory birds during winter. The chief feature of the lake is the natural lagoon formed in the lake. The other attractions are the surrounding areas with raw jungles, tea gardens, and the unique cultural heritage of the villagers. The lake offers its visitors the opportunity to go fishing in the lake.

Assam State Zoo is one of the most prominent attractions of Guwahati, spread over 130 hectares of land. The zoo is home to an astounding collection of rare & endangered species of wildlife. Some of the most photographed animals here include the rare one-horned rhinoceros, the rarer white tigers, swamp tapirs, and leopards. The zoo also comprises animal exhibits, a museum, a reptile house, a botanical garden, and a herbarium collection. The zoo remains open from Saturday to Thursday & the timings are from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.      
 
4: Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is 60 km from Guwahati, famous for deer and rhinos. This sanctuary is around a 2-hour drive from Guwahati in the famous Magical village of Mayong in the Marigaon district of Assam. It has a dense population of the Great Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Besides Rhinoceros, other animals are Asiatic Buffalo, Leopard, Wild bear, civet cat & others. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is also home to more than 2000 migratory birds and various reptiles. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is quite hilly & due to the difference in altitudes, one can find diverse vegetation. The best time to Travel to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is November to March. 
 
5: Deepor Beel Bird Sanctuary
Deepor Beel Bird Sanctuary
Deepor Beel Bird Sanctuary is southwest of Guwahati city, in Kamrup district, on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra river. This sanctuary is a permanent freshwater lake with abundant aquatic vegetation. A Ramsar site, the Deepor Beel covers an area of about 900 hectares. The Beel drains into the Brahmaputra River, located about 5 km away. The southern side of the lake is contiguous with Rani Reserve Forest. A large variety of aquatic flora of tropical wetlands is found in Deepor Beel and its adjoining areas.
 
6: Ugratara Temple
Ugratara Temple
The Ugratara Temple is one of the most sacred & significant pilgrimage centers of Assam. Dedicated to Goddess Ugra Tara, another form of Goddess Parvathi, the temple was constructed by King Shiva Singh of the Ahom Kingdom in 1725. The upper section of the temple suffered considerable damage due to an earthquake. Since then, it has undergone several renovations and modification attempts.

Airport: - Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati is well connected by air with New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai. Air India operates direct flight between Guwahati and Bangkok on Mondays and Thursdays.

 

Railway: - The busy and overcrowded Paltan Bazar railway station is the nearest railhead for many trains from every part of India. There are direct train services from New Delhi and Kolkata with connectivity to Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram etc.

 

Road Transport: - All India tourist permit vehicles are available for the local transportations and also for the inter city transportations too. Guwahati is connected by regular bus services with Shillong, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur, Siliguri, Sibsagar, Dimapur, Kohima, Imphal, Aizawal, Itanagar, Barpetta Road and Cooch Bihar.

 

Local Transport: - Cabs and auto rickshaws are available but might be a little over priced. Having own mode of conveyance is the most convenient. Travelling by the local bus is also an option. It is also very cheap.
