Kishtwar is popularly known as ‘The Land of Saffron and Sapphire’ Saffron of purest quality is produced in the iron rich soil at Pochhal, Matta, Lachdayaram and Hidyal. The Padder area produces world class Pine nuts called chilgoza which is a delicacy and costly dry fruit. In Marwah, Chatroo, Mughalmaidan and Bounjwah Tehsils wall nut production of best quality walnuts in thousands of tons is recorded. Besides Walnut the Marwah Tehsil produces thousands of tons of Kidney Beans which are the cash crop of the area. At Rakna palmar there is of Zain Shah Sahab. Kishtwar has also the holy Hindu pilgrimage sites of Athara Bhuja Devi temple, Chandi Mata temple and Asthadash bhuja Sathal Mata Temple. Every year the pilgrimage is arranged for Machail yatra a mega event attended by more than hundred thousand people from all over the country. The annual sarthal yatra is also attended by thousands of devotees. The rural households are also abundantly gifted by nature through cash crops of eatable mushrooms and Morchilla called guchhi in local language. Kishtwar serves as the base camp for trekking and mountaineering to various mountain peaks like Sickle Moon, Crooked Finger, Eiger, Brammah-I, etc. Nagseen, Sarthal, Dachhan, Paddar, Chowgan, Shrine of Shah Asrar are the key attractions of Kishtwar’s sightseeing. Despite having immense potential for tourism, Kishtwar is one of the least visited places in Kashmir.

1: Nagseen
Nagseen
Nagseen is located on the east of Kishtwar town. Surrounded by wooded forests, this place is full of natural beauty and serenity. It was named after a Buddhist Preacher Nagseen.

Paddar
Paddar is one of the regions of Kishtwar district that known for natural beauty and rich wild life resources. Paddar has the most famous sapphire and ruby mines and it is known for producing blue diamond at massive quantity. Tatta Pani, the popular hot spring of the region is also located in this place and huge numbers of tourists visit here to take bath in it. The sacrosanct temple Machail Chandi Mata makes it a holy place for Hindu devotees.  
 
3: Sarthal
Sarthal
Sarthal is one of the most popular places of the Kishtwar district. Located at a distance of 24 kms from Kishtwar town, it is famous for Ashta Bhuja Temple. There are several picnic spots in Saarthal like junwas, bandwaan, sumzaa, agral, ghaan. Every year, Zagroo, culture festival is celebrated where chakri dance is performed.  
 
4: Dachhan
Dachhan
Dachhan is located in Marwah Tehsil of Kishtwar district. It serves as the base camp for mountaineering to high mountain peaks like Sickle North, Brahma, Vaishno, Hudh Mata and Mahesh. The place is also popularly known for trout fishing. Mathralla has some mountain springs and a rock cut statue of cow. There is also a national park in the region.

Kishtwar is a town bustling with numerous trekking trails and stands as the chief base for treks all through the state of Kashmir. Mountains such as the Namtse at the height of 6000 mts, Cathedral at 5370 mts, Charcha at 6065 mts, Lhalung, Eiger at 6001 mts, and Sickle Moon at 6574 mts are situated in proximity to the town. The place is also known for its picturesque valleys such as Paddar, Marwah, and Dacchan. A cave called the Bhandarkote Cave is also a popular tourist attraction here. The destination is also known for Machail Yatra, a popular Hindu pilgrimage. This yatra concludes in the Chandi Mata ki Mandir which is located in Machail.

Chowgan
Chowgan or parade ground is located in the heart of Kishtwar town. It has total area covered about 165 acres. It is surrounded by Chinar, Deodar and different kinds of trees. It is surrounded by temple called Gori Shanker Mandir in North and in its south thers is a Shrine Ziyarat of Asrar Ud Din Bagdadi.

8: Shrine Of Shah Asrar
Shrine of Shah Asrar
Shrine of Shah Asrar is situated in southeast of Chowgan. It is a highly revered shrine and is one of the prime tourist attractions in Kishtwar. The shrine is also popularly known as Darbar e Asrariya and Astan e Payeen. Shah Asrar, on whose memory the shrine is dedicated, performed great miracles and became quite popular amongst the people. He lived for a short period of eighteen years and is said to have been called back by God. The legend has it that Shah Asrar, who was born to Hazrat Farid ud din, was a born saint. It is believed that at a very young age, Shah Asrar started to show signs of his incredible talent, but when his father came to know about this, he prayed to God to take him back to heaven. On 25th day of Kartik, Hazrat Farid ud din prepared sugar syrup and recited some Quranic hymns. He then ordered Shah Asrar to drink the syrup. After drinking the syrup, Shah Asrar took his last breath and as it is believed he went back to God. His father made arrangements to bury him in Chowgan. This burial place is now called Darbar e Asrariya. His URS, which is celebrated every year on 25th day of Kartik, is considered as one of the major attractions in Kishtwar as on this day a large number of devotees throng his shrine seeking to get blessings and their wishes fulfilled.

By Road - Kishtwar is linked with other places of the state like Jammu, Udhampur, Doda, Srinagar, etc by National Highway 1B. Private and J&KSRTC operated bus services are available. One can also hire private taxi/share taxi from Jammu, Udhampur and Srinagar.

By Train - The Jammu Tawi is the nearest major railway station that is well connected with all major cities in India including southern railways and northeast frontier railways. At a distance of 164 kms, Udhampur is another nearest railways station.

By Air - The most nearest airport to Kishtwar is Jammu. It receives regular flights from Delhi, Srinagar, Leh and Jaipur.

Local Transport - Being a small village, it is mostly travelled on foot. Tourists can even hire taxis on hourly or daily basis.
