Before these two districts were combined, the Lahaul capital was Kardang, and Dhankar was the capital of Spiti. Kaza, located in the state of Himachal Pradesh, is a famous town in the Spiti Valley in Lahaul and Spiti district. Situated on a ridge 11980 ft above sea level, Kaza is a beautiful place to visit. Kaza overlooked by high mountain ridges on all sides, can be easily reached from two sides, Kinnaur Valley and Manali, via Rohtang Pass. The town, surrounded by greenery, is rich in flora and fauna. Dhankar
Dhankar is a small village in the cold desert of Spiti Valley. Dhang or dang means cliff, and kar or khar means fort. Thus, Dhankar means fort on a cliff. Dhankar looks like a bowl shaped structure in the hills. It looks like almost all the old Dhankar houses have emerged straight from the mountains with their main wall on the back being merged on the hills. This is a forte of Dhankar houses which from the wide angle or from distance provides spectacular views. Dhankar is mainly known for Dhankar Monastery. It was built as a fort Monastery on the Central Tibetan pattern. The complex is built on a 300 mts high spur and is one of the world’s most amazing settings for a Monastery. It contains a series of 15th century wall paintings. World Monuments Fund has declared this Monastery among the 100 most endangered sites in the world. Due to the deteriorating state of the old monastery, a new Monastery was built in the village. This road was primarily made for the use of Dalai Lama during his visit to Dhankar.  
 
4: Lhalung Monastery
Lhalung Monastery
Tayul monastery, namely Tayul Gompa, is assumed as the oldest monastery in the Northern region, located at an elevation of 3900 meters above sea level in the Bhaga Valley of Lahaul and Spiti. The monastery, built in the 17th century, is home to the Drugpa or Red Hat Sect of Buddhist monks. The most vulnerable possession of the monastery is the 12 ft statue of Guru Padmasambhava, besides the famous manifestation of Singhmukha and Vajravahi. 
 
5: Sissu
Sissu
Sissu is a popular village and a famous tourist destination located at Keylong in Himachal Pradesh. Positioned at an altitude of 3100 meters above sea level, Sissu is on the banks of the Chandra River and has a thick plantation of willows and poplars on either side of the road. It is so dense that even sunlight cannot enter. Another popular attraction of the place is the two ancient fountain slabs, which date back to the 11th or 12th AD. Moreover, a PWD rest house is also there for the convenience of the tourists.

Tandi is a significant village located at Keylong in Himachal Pradesh, at an elevation of 2573 meters, located at a short distance of 8 km from Keylong above the meeting points of the rivers Chandra and Bhaga. Situated on the Manali Leh Raod, Tandi has the last fuel station for travelers who like to travel to the north of Keylong.

Udaipur is an exotic tourist destination around 53 km from Keylong in Himachal Pradesh. Positioned at an elevation of 2523 meters above sea level, Udaipur is at the intersection of the Mayar Nullah. Being situated at a low altitude, dry fruits and fruits like walnuts, apricots, and apples grow here. This place is known for the Trilokinath Temple and the Markula Devi Temple.

The main attraction of this religious shrine is the 11th-century statue of goddesses the Marichi and Vajravarahi, who are said to have their origins in Varahi, a Hindu goddess.

Guru Ghantal Monastery, also known as the Gandhola Monastery, is a famous religious center located around 8 km from Keylong. The main feature of this monastery is its idols, made of wood. This monastery has a unique architectural style having pyramid-shaped roofs and intricate carvings. This monastery has a black stone image of the Hindu Goddess Kali in its private hall, which signifies that the monastery was a temple earlier.
 
13: Kardang Monastery

Kardang Monastery is an ancient gompa located around 5 km from Keylong in Himachal Pradesh, at an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level, on the banks of the river Bhaga. It is a 900-year-old monastery, & falls under the Drukpa Kagyud school of Buddhism. This monastery has a vast collection of Thanka paintings, musical instruments such as lutes, drums, horns, and some old weapons.

Shasur Monastery
Shasur Monastery is a prominent tourist attraction located at a distance of 3 km from Keylong in Himachal Pradesh. According to the local dialect, the word Shasur means blue pine, and such beautiful forests of blue pine surround the monastery. The monastery was constructed in the 17th century by Lama Deva Gyatsho of Zanskar, a missionary of the King Nawang Namgyal of Bhutan. A beautiful collection of Thangka paintings is in the monastery, & some of them are 15 feet in height. The wall paintings represent the 84 Siddhas of Buddhism.
 
17: Kunzum Pass
Kunzum Pass
Kunzum Pass, also known as Kunzum La in Tibet, is a high mountain pass situated east of the Kunzum Range, at an altitude of 4590 meters, about 122 km from Manali. This pass connects the Kullu Valley and the Lahaul Valley with the Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. Travelers who are religiously inclined can also visit the temple of Goddess Durga, situated at the top of this pass. A drive of 20 km from the Rohtang Pass and a right turn from Grampoo lead to the Kunzum Pass & which offers visitors the opportunity to witness the magnificent view of the Bara Sigri glacier, which is the second-largest glacier in the world.

Losar is peaceful, soothing, and delightful. Losar village in Spiti Valley is located adjacent to the Indo-Chinese border at an altitude of 4085 meters above sea level. Kibber is a small village in Lahaul situated at an altitude of 4270 meters in Himachal Pradesh, at the top of a limestone rock in a narrow valley. A monastery built by Serkang Rimpoche of Tabo and the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary is two of the most prominent attractions of Kibber. Kibber is known as the highest village in the world, connected by road.

The glorious Pin Valley National Park is located in the cold desert area of Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh and is home to more than 20 species of animals and birds, including the endangered Snow Leopard. Perched at an altitude between 3300 and 6632 meters above sea level, the Pin Valley National Park is a gem of an attraction,  bestowed with an assortment of flora and fauna. There are many animal species in the park, but the endangered Snow Leopard attracts tourists from all over the country. No foreign tourist is allowed inside the park & the Indian tourists can enter with a permit.

It is also known as Ki, Key, and Kee monastery. Kye monastery is at an altitude of 4116 meters above sea level, about 20 km from Kaza. The Gompa has an irregular shape with low-height rooms and narrow corridors. The architectural pattern of the monastery represents the ‘Pasada’ type of construction. This monastery is famous for striking wall paintings, thankas, rare manuscripts, stucco pictures, and wind instruments. Another significant feature of this monastery is that hundreds of Lamas seek religious training there.
