Mandi, also known as Varanasi of Hills, is a well-known district in Himachal Pradesh. Situated on the banks of the River Beas, the historic city of Mandi was earlier known as Mandav Nagar after the great Sage Mandav. Mandi is surrounded by the thick green cover of pine trees, deodar trees, and tea plantations, with rich culture & heritage & numerous temples spread across the town. 

Mandi also displays some old palaces and exquisite forms of colonial architecture. With a blend of warm and cold weather, the city housing lakes and gardens. 1: Rewalsar Lake
Rewalsar Lake
Rewalsar Lake, located at an altitude of 1350 meters above sea level, is a noted tourist destination and a pilgrimage center of Mandi. This unique pilgrim center has three Buddhist monasteries & as well as three Hindu temples. It's also believed sacred among the Sikhs as the 10th Sikh Guru, Gobind Singh, is believed to have resided here for a month. Rewalsar is famous for the Sisu Fair, held at the end of February or early March, and the festival of Baisakhi.

Prashar Lake is in the picturesque village of Prashar at a distance of 62 km from Mandi at an altitude of 2730 meters above sea level. There is a three-storied temple located on the banks of the lake. Dedicated to the popular Sage Prashar, this temple is constructed on the spot where he used to mediate. Surrounded by beautiful snow-clad mountains, the water of this lake is deep blue in color. Travelers can also see a tiny island in the lake.

Bhima Kali Temple is a famous religious site in Mandi located on the banks of the River Beas. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Bhimakali, the family deity of the Bushahar rulers of Mandi. This temple has a large museum showcasing various statues and images of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. According to a legend, the Hindu God Krishna fought a great war against Banasura, a demon king, at this site and buried his head in the earth.

According to a legend, Raj Madhav, the deity who ruled the state of Mandi, along with other hill deities, visits the temple and offers prayers before beginning a procession during the festival of Shivaratri.

Ardhanarisvara Temple
Ardhanarisvara Temple is a noted religious site. The idol enshrined in this temple represents the ideology of Ardhnareshwar, which refers to a god who is half man and half woman. The Hindu Lord Shiva and his consort, Goddess Parvati, are depicted here in a composite form of half man on the right and half woman on the left. This temple was constructed based on the principle that women are an integral part of men’s life. The Archaeological Survey of India recognizes this temple as a protected site for its unique architecture & elaborates carvings.

Balh Valley, also known as the Sunder Nagar Valley, at an elevation of 800 meters above sea level. Placed between the Shimla Ridge and the Shivalik Hills, this valley has a stream, the Suketi, flowing through it. The cultivation of maize, wheat, ginger, and sugarcane is done exclusively in this valley. The occupations of the villagers of the Balh Valley include dairy farming, mixed farming, animal husbandry, and horticulture.

10: Gurudwara Gobind Singh
Gurudwara Gobind Singh
Gurudwara Gobind Singh, dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh guru, is under his leadership that the Sikh community united and fought against the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. During this war, Guru Gobind Singh received enormous support from the king of the state. Situated on the banks of the River Beas, this gurudwara is also known as the Gurudwara Palang Sahabas. There is the bed on which Guru Gobind Singh used to sleep. Apart from that, a musical instrument called the Rabab, a gun, and a gun kuppy that Guru Gobind Singh used, are also preserved here. A big tank of water, believed to have medicinal properties, lies adjacent to the Gurudwara.

Chindi is a prominent tourist destination close to the Karsog Valley in the Mandi District, & is an exotic hill station surrounded by mountains & dense forests of pine and deodar. The attractions of the place include a small temple and numerous apple orchards. At an elevation of 1825 meters, this hill station has a local market from where tourists can purchase warm rugs and ethnic handicrafts.

Jhatingri is one of the famous picnic spots at an elevation of 6600 ft above sea level. Located on Ghogar Dam, this place is associable via Urla, which lies on Mandi Pathankot National Highway. Blue pine and deodar forests on the route to Jhatingri add charm. At this place, travelers can also find a summer palace of the former kings of Mandi and a rest house.

Kamlah Fort is at an elevation of 4772 ft in the village of Kamlah, which is close to the Hamirpur District. Located on the Sikandar Dhar Ranges, the fort was built in 1625 by Raja Suraj Sen of Mandi. It was destroyed in 1840 by Bentura, the General of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Later in 1846, the fort was refurbished by the kings of Mandi. This fort got its name from the local saint, named Kamlah Baba. Situated 80 km from Mandi, visitors can reach this fort by Trekking through an adventurous route.

Mahamritunjya Temple, devoted to Lord Shiva, enshrines a unique idol of the deity. This idol depicts Shiva sitting in the lotus position in a meditative mood with his third eye open. Lord Shiva’s idol has four arms of which his upper right hand is raised to bless, the left upper hand is holding a pot filled with water of immortality, the lower right hand is seen in a Bhumisparsha Mudra, and the upper left hand is holding a Kamandal, a pot holding water.
