1: Mysore Palace

Mysore palace is one of the famous tourist attractions in India after the Taj Mahal. The former residence of the royal family of Mysore, the Mysore palace is a perfect example of the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture.

2: Lalitha Mahal Palace

The Lalitha Mahal Palace is situated 11kms from Mysore city on top of a small hillock. This Palace is in the middle of sprawling terraced gardens. Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV commissioned this two-storied Palace in 1921. E.W. Fritchley from Mumbai designed the Palace in the Renaissance style and included design concepts from the Italian palazzo and English manor. This Palace has now been converted into a heritage five-star hotel by the India Tourism Development Corporation of the Government of India.

3: Jaganmohan Palace

The Jaganmohan Palace in Mysore is one of the oldest buildings in Mysore. The Jaganmohan Palace is a beautiful and ornamental Palace built by the Kings of Mysore. In the 150 years of its existence, this palace has witnessed several important events that have been instrumental in shaping the destiny of the modern State of Mysore. Jaganmohan Palace Art Gallery is a must-visit attraction for art lovers. Precious artifacts and artworks from all over South India are on display. The entrance door of this art gallery features intricate carvings that are exemplary of fine craftsmanship. The gallery houses Raja Ravi Varma's original oil paintings based on various mythological themes. Other exhibits featured in the art gallery are exquisite metal, ceramic, and glass artifacts.

4: Jayalakshmi Vilas

Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar of Mysore had three daughters and two sons. The two sons of the Maharaja, Krihsanraja Wodeyar IV & Narasimharaja Wodeyar, lived in the Main Palace. The King constructed three mansions for his three daughters in three different corners of Mysore on top of small hillocks that gave an excellent view of the city. Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion is about a century old and is one of the five royal mansions built by Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar for his eldest daughter. The mansion was initially called the First Rajkumari Mansion or Palace of the first princess Jayalakshmi Devi or the Kebbekatte Bungalow, 3 km from Mysore City Bus Stand.

5: Brindavan Gardens

Sprawling over a large area of about 150 acres, Brindavan Gardens are considered to be the best in Mysore. This beautiful stretch of land is situated just a level below the Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir, built across the Cauvery or Kaveri River. The garden is about 18 kilometers northwest of the city of Mysore. The most notable thing about Brindavan Gardens is the beautiful fountains that look wonderful at night when they light up. Sunset is the best time of the day to visit this garden and enjoy the sight of water while dancing to the tunes of pleasant music.

6: Happy Man Park

Happy Man Park is a well-manicured garden located in Mysore. It is a popular place where kids and adults can have enjoyable moments. The main attraction of this park is the gigantic statue of a Happy Man, resembling Laughing Buddha. The beautifully designed park features wooden bridges, little streams, and lush greenery, besides a mini zoo. Visitors can also see hens and ducks roaming around freely on the lawn.

7: Bandipur National Park

Bandipur National Park is about 80 km from Mysore city and is a peaceful retreat in nature's lap, far from the din of the city. The Maharaja of Mysore set up this Park in 1931. The Park is at the foothills of the Nilgiri Hills. Here one can see a wide variety of birds and animals in their natural habitat. The World Wildlife Fund has chosen the Park for their project tiger scheme to protect tigers in India. The Park has accommodation for visitors as well. Gundelpet is the closest town to the Park, about 20 km from it.

8: Butterfly Park

Massive swarms of colorful butterflies descended upon Karanji Lake have lent color to its environs, especially the trees, shrubs, and bushes, on which they perch. It's the first butterfly park in the state & after the development of the lake, the beautiful winged guests fluttering from flower to flower all over provides a glorious sight, interspersed with the chirping of birds.

9: Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum

Sand Sculpture Museum is the most recent addition to the list of places to see in Mysore. Located on the way to Chamundi Hills, this unique museum is the first of its kind in India. An excellent example of creative brilliance, the museum offers a creative setting with artistic works. Intricate carvings on the sand, the delicateness of the sculptures, and their unique themes make it a place worth visiting.

10: Railway Museum

The Railway museum is opposite the CFT Research Institute on Krishnaraja Sagar Road. The museum has a good collection of photographs and objects related to the development of the railways. A striking feature of the museum is the Chamundi Gallery which showcases a distinctive collection of pictures & paintings portraying the growth of the railways. Another unique feature of the museum is the Sri Ranga Pavilion which houses two royal coaches.

11: Wax Museum

Wax Museum is a fascinating tourist spot in Mysore. This place has been aptly named the Melody World as several musical instruments are here. Adding to the attractiveness of this place are the wax statues of musicians playing instruments. There are 100 life-size wax models and over 300 musical instruments displayed here. It features 19 galleries and has a beautiful collection of musical instruments.

12: Chamundi Hills

The Chamundi Hills on the outskirts of Mysore city is another famous landmark, about 3 km from the city. It is at an elevation of 1065 meters above sea leave and about 800 feet above Mysore city. On the top of the hill is the Chamundeshwari temple, which dates back to the 11th century.

13: St. Philomenas Church

The St. Philomena's Church in Mysore is one of the oldest churches in India. It is over 200 years old. Initially, over 250 years ago, there was a small church in its place. The church is in the Gothic style & one of the largest Cathedrals in South Asia. The church has the relic of the 3rd century in a beautiful catacomb below the main altar.

15: Mysore Zoo

Mysore Zoo, or Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Garden, was established in 1892. The zoo is home to about 1450 animals belonging to 170 species, such as Gorillas, chimpanzees, African rhinos, Tapir, Baboon, Emu, Marmoset, Lemur, and Cassowary inhabit the zoo. Besides, Deer, Antelopes, Candies, Primates, and Reptiles. Since Karanji Lake is an integral part of the zoo, one can even spot varieties of birds here. It houses a small museum that displays stuffed animals and a library.

How To Reach Mysore

By Air - Mysore Airport, also known as Mandakalli Airport, is a domestic airport serving Mysore in Karnataka, India. It is located 8 kilometres south of the city in the village of Mandakalli.

By Rail - Mysore is very well connected by rail throughout the region and the railway station is just about 2 kilometres from the city centre.

By Road - Tourists can also take the bus from Kempegowda Bus Station in Majestic to Mysore. There are several options of state transport buses as well as private tour operators. Tickets are easily available at the bus station ticket counter.
