Girijatmaj Vinayak Temple of Lenyadri, one of the Ashtavinayak Temples of Maharashtra, is the sixth Lord Ganesh Temple to be visited on the Ashta Vinayaka Mandir Pilgrimage. Girijatmaj Ashta Vinayaka Temple is the only temple of the Ashtavinayaka located on a mountain & reached after climbing 307 steps. Girija is another name for Goddess Parvati & Atamaj means ‘Son’ & out of 18 Buddhist caves located at the mountain, Girijatmaj Vinayak Temple is the 8th cave & these caves are also known as Ganesh Gufa. The Lord Ganesha here is called Shri Vighneshwar Vinayak, & temple faces east, surrounded by a thick stone wall. One can walk on the wall. This idol, facing the east, has its trunk towards the left & is located just off the Pune-Nashik Highway in the town of Azhar on the banks of river Kukadi, close to the Yedagaon dam built on it. It is enclosed on all sides by high stone walls, & its pinnacle is of gold. Ozarcha Shri Vigneshwara is said to be one of the Ashta Vinayak shrines of lord Ganesha. This temple has features such as a spacious courtyard, a grand entrance, and sculptural and mural work & idol of Lord Ganesha is embedded with precious and semi-precious stones.

The temple itself has the aura of a peaceful place of worship. A little crowd of devotees if you avoid the festive occasions. In the temple, there is a Huge Bell made of five metals brought from Europe by the Peshwas during their raid on a church in Vasai & Sashti. During Dakshinayan, as the sun rises, the sun's rays fall on the Vinayaka. The temple itself is ancient though it is maintained well. The deity is said to be famous for its quick response to prayers. The approximate driving distance between Shree Ballaleshwar Temple Pali and Pune is 121 Kms.

Varadvinayak temple is simple but beautiful  & is one of the Temple of Astavinayaka Darshan, situated in Mahad village in Raigad, 146 km from Pune. The idol in the temple was found in the lake adjoining the temple and displays a weathered look. An oil lamp called Nandadeep, is believed to have been burning since 1892. Mahad is a pretty village set in the hilly region of Konkan in the Raigarh district and the Khalapur Taluka of Maharastra. Lord Ganesha, as Varad Vinayak, fulfills all desires and grants all boons.

Bhimashankar is the sixth Jyotirlinga in the series of Dwadasha Jyotirlingas. The temple is very old and surrounded by a scenic nature with green forest. The place is totally surrounded by dense forest which is also considered as the wild life sanctuary by Indian Government. This hill region is called Sahyadri and situated at a distance of 125 Kms. from Pune. This forest is also called Khed. Bhimashankar is also the source of the river Bhima, which flows Southeast and merges with the Krishna river near Raichur. It is also becoming one of the attractive and well known religious places in Maharashtra as well as in India. The temple itself is a fine example of architectural splendour of the 13th century. The premise has Sabhamandap and Shikhara as well which was constructed by Nana Phadnavis during the 18th century.

Legends have it that the famous Shivaji Maharaj chose Rajgad as his capital for more than 25 years and later moved the capital to this magnificent fort. Other than its famed architecture & significant historical contribution, it's a paradise for trekkers with trekking trails lined with lush green forests. This fort is large & it takes two days to see several spots. Camping is also possible & locals prepare hot meals, but it is possible to cook meals yourself as firewood is also available. The treacherous approaches zig-zag narrow paths, the deceiving double-walled shield of its fortifications, massive Maha Darwaza, and Chor Darwaza tells the tale of the Fortress of the forgotten empire. The beauty of the fort and the surroundings are mesmerizing. The sunrise from Balekilla is a must-watch.

The Parvati Temple is a good vantage point for enjoying city views. A steep climb of some hundred steps brings you to this shrine. The third Peshwa, Balaji Bajirao alias Nana Saheb built the temple in 1749. It is an elegant example of the Maratha style of temple architecture. The Peshwa Museum in the temple complex is small but filled with Peshwa ethos. It is one of the best observation points for the panoramic view of Pune City.

Torna is one of the most favored treks around Pune. Being the tallest mountain in the Pune district, this trek is quite challenging. From a historical point of view, this fort is significant because it was the first fort won by Shivaji Maharaj. Torna is also known as Prachandagad, which means Huge. Torna Fort Trek is a day adventure ex-Pune with a medium level of difficulty. The trek is typically done during monsoon and winters and takes about 5-6 hours of walking/trekking. Torna fort base is located at about 50-60 Km. from Pune near Velhe.

The Lake is nested in the lap of Sahyadri mountain ranges and surrounded by lush green hills streaked with numerous waterfalls. Panshet is popular because of Water sports here. One can have a road trip to Panshet surrounded by dark green woods. Further, the sunrise in the hills gave it such a majestic look. The sound of the running water much below where we were standing added to the beauty of the morning. Panshet Dam, also called Tanajisagar Dam, is a dam on the Ambi river.

The Baneshwar Temple is a charming and quiet place in the village of Nasarapur, 36 Kms Southwest of Pune & if you wish to have a single-day trip from Pune. The Baneshwar temple is quite good and reveals our old architecture and culture. The park surrounding the temple is quite large & requires hours to explore & very well maintained with diverse flora and fauna. The Baneshwar Waterfall is also good, but it’s not a very big one or from a height & is in a protected forest area. The whole place is a great picnic spot for families. The Ban means forest & Ishwar means God, which means God within a forest.

The Visapur Fort, located in the Pune district of Maharashtra, at an elevation of 1084 meters & is a historical fortress built during the late 1713-1720s. An opportunity to unravel history & legends, the Visapur Fort trek will offer you glimpses of a bygone era along with the much-desired thrills of trekking. The waterfall route climb to the top is simply amazing. The key features of the fort are fortification on the East side and a plateau full of flowers. Within the fort are caves and cisterns of water.  Visapur is ideal for a one-day trek, but one can spend a night watching the beautiful sky full of stars on top of the fort. Make arrangements for your tents and food as the village is near the foothills. 31: Pataleshwar Cave Temple

Pataleshwar Cave Temple is located across the river on Jungli Maharaj Road in Shivaji Nagar of Pune. The most striking feature of this cave temple is the unique sound of the bells. Pataleshwar cave temple provides the perfect example of rock-cut architecture. The architecture and designs of the temple cave are very similar to that of the Elephanta caves. The main attraction of the cave is the shrine of Lord Shiva and the Nandi bull. The entire temple is the treasure house of gigantic pillars. The temple also has seating arrangements for tourists with small rooms. Most of the rocks in the cave date back to 700-800 AD.  The best time to visit the cave lies between the month of October to March & remains open for tourists from the morning to the evening. The Pataleshwar Cave Temple comes under the protected monuments category of Pune. 
 
32: Morgaon Mayureshwar Temple

The idol in Morgaon Mayureshwar Temple is in a sitting posture facing east with the trunk turning left & smeared with sindur mixed in oil. The eyes & navel of the idol are embedded with diamonds. The temple, built from black stone during the Bahamani reign, has four gates. The temple has 50 feet tall wall around it & is in Morgaon near the river Karha in Pune District, about 80 km from Pune city. The temple is the starting and ending point of a pilgrimage of eight revered Ganesha temples called Ashtavinayaka.

Sri Balaji temple, also known as Sri Venkateshwara temple, near Narayanpura village near Pune-built by Sri Venkateshwara Hatcheries, & also called Venky's Balaji, is a good outing from Pune. It is an adventurous drive from Pune, & en route, you will find one of the longest tunnels in the nearby areas, the length of 1.5 Kms. Though the walk may be a bit circuitous, the temple is generally not very crowded. There are many other smaller temples of several Gods within the temple complex, all in beautiful marble or black stone & it's a beautiful place with positivity & spiritual vibrations. 37: Bedse Caves

If the mystic jungles & caves fascinate you, then Bedse Caves is the perfect destination in the Pune District, Maharashtra, & is a   Buddhist Cave. There are two main caves & the best-known cave is the chaitya which is renowned for being a prayer hall for the Buddhists. It has a comparatively large stupa in front of it. The other cave is a monastery which is known as a vihara. There are two other Buddhist Caves in the nearby areas. One is the Karla Cave & the other is the Bhaja Cave. Tourists are allowed to drive their vehicles inside the sanctuary & as well as on foot. The best time to visit is from late August to February when the weather is not very harsh. Mayureshwar Sanctuary consists of the dry deciduous scrub forest of Acacia catechu (Khair), Acacia Sp (Hiver), Dalbergia latifolia (Sisoo), Ziziphus Mauritiana (Bor), and interspersed grasslands and the animals.
