About Raisen

It is bounded in the west by Sehore district, in the north by Vidisha district, in the ease and south east by Sagar district, in the south east by Narsimhapur district, and in the south by Hoshangabad and Sehore district. The total area of the district is 8395 sq kms. Raisen, renowned for Raisen Fort, is a city situated in the central part of Madhya Pradesh, India. The city is an administrative headquarters of Raisen district and also forms the part of Bhopal Division. Perched at an altitude of 1461 ft, Raisen city lies between 23 degrees 19 minutes north latitudes and 77 degrees 46 minutes east longitudes. Raisen derives its name from the huge and magnificent Raisen Fort situated in the city. It is alleged that the Raisen was established by a Hindu ruler, Rai Singh in the year 1143 AD. During his reign he constructed a fort on the hill atop which is renowned as Raisen Fort. Raisen is a picturesque city with hills and forests all around the region. It is one of the popular places among the tourists. Locals of Raisen depend on agriculture. The crops cultivated here mainly include wheat, pea and soybean. The nearest big town to Raisen is Bhopal, at a distance of about 42 kms. During the Mugal period Khamkhera was the head quarter of the area noe falls in Gairatganj Tehsil. It receives its present name during the same Mugal rule. Shahpur was the head quarter of the Pargana. Later on it was shifted to Sagoni, which falls in Begamganj Tehsil.
