RAISEN

Built in 1200 AD, Raisen Fort is one of the important tourist attractions of Raisen, Madhya Pradesh. The town Raisen has got its known after the inception of this fort on the hill top of the town. Made of sandstone, the Raisen Fort stands as a testimonial to the amazing ancient architecture and quality of the world that still stands tall even after so many centuries. The huge stone walls of the fort open to nine gateways and are surmounted by thirteen bastions. Surprising though, but Raisen fort had a well maintained water management and conservation system with more than 40 wells. In the surrounding area too, there are many ancient caves and wall paintings that speak about the ancient history and culture of the country.
 

The four gateways or torans at Sanchi, a small village near Raisen, are covered with intricate carvings which portray scenes from the life of Buddha and a few Jataka tales. The Ashoka Pillar among the many pillars here is constructed in the Greco Buddhist style. It is from this construct that the National Emblem of India was adopted.
 

Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah Baba is the most important place of Raisen region. This shrine is famous all over the country and is known for its sacredness. Large crowds visit the holy shrine every day and seek the blessings of this Muslim Holy Saint Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah Baba. It is believed that wishes made by devotees at this shrine with full faith and honesty are fulfilled, and people are blessed with all the good things in life. Devotees from all religions and sects are allowed to visit Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah Baba with no bias. Because of this very reason, this shrine is also considered as one of the important places for religious integration in India.
