About Rishikesh

Rishikesh, also known as the Place of Sagas & the Yoga capital of the world, is a spiritual town situated 24 km upstream from Haridwar, at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga. According to legend, 'Hrishikesh' appeared in response to Rabhiya Rishi's severe penances. It is the starting point for the Char Dham pilgrimage and an ideal destination for pilgrims & also for people who are interested in meditation, yoga, and other aspects of Hinduism. 

For adventure seekers, Rishikesh is the suggested place for starting their trekking expeditions to the Himalayan peaks and for rafting & other extreme sports activities like Bungee jumping at jumping heights, Flying Fox, Giant Swing, Cliff Jump, Air Safari, Reverse Bungee, Zip Line, and Camping. Also, International Yoga week, which attracts participation from across the world, is held here in February on the banks of the Ganga.

1: Lakshman Temple
Lakshman Temple
At a distance of 6 km from Rishikesh Railway Station, Lakshman Mandir is Hindu Temple located in the Tapovan area close to the Lakshman Jhula. It's a renowned temple and one of the ancient shrines situated along the banks of the River Ganges in Rishikesh. According to legend, this is the place where Lord Lakshman meditated to seek spiritual enlightenment. Many believe that Lord Ram and Lakshman constructed a jute bridge here, which was replaced with Iron Bridge & now popularly as Lakshman Jhula. The temple is known for its ancient sculptures and wall paintings. 
 
2: Shatrughna Temple

At a distance of 4 km from Rishikesh railway station, Shatrughna temple is an ancient temple situated on the banks of the holy river Ganges near Ram Jhula in Rishikesh. The temple is named Aadi Badrinarayan and Sri Shatrughna Temple & is one of the two temples dedicated to Shatrughna. The other temple is at Paymmal in the Thrissur district of Kerala.

Also known as Ram Jhoola, the bridge runs across the river near Swarg Ashram. It is situated 3 km north of Rishikesh. It's a popular place amongst people coming for religious purposes because it has very known Ashrams. The most known ashrams are Geeta Bhavan & Swarg Ashram & which are very important in the Hindu community & one will see much more commotion here than in Lakshman Jhula.

Beatles Ashram, named after the famous English Band The Beatles & is also called Chaurasi Kuttiya & served as a training center for the scholars of Maharishi Mahesh yogi. The place came in the highlight when the Beatles Band meditated here for months & also recorded some of their best songs.

This ancient & colorful temple s surrounded by three mountains, Manikoot, Bramhakoot & Vishnukkoot Parvat & 32 km from Rishikesh is a picturesque temple. As per legend, Lord Shiva drank poison during Ocean Churning & his throat turned blue, thus the name Neelkanth.

Neelgarh is a mesmerizing 25ft waterfall & to reach this place requires a few minutes of trekking. Neelgarh waterfall is 8 km from Rishikesh and is very scenic & worth visiting in September-October.

Laxman Jhula is a 450 meters long Bridge made by the Britishers and is one of the famous tourist spots in Rishikesh. According to legend, Laxman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, built this bridge with jute and performed penance here.

Triveni Ghat is famous for the spiritual & beautiful Ganga Aarti held here every evening. This famous Ghat was built by Peshwa Balaji Baajirao & also was the first to perform Ganga Aarti here. The place also has a few temples nearby to explore.
