Sawai Madhopur lies on the eastern edge of Rajasthan state and is a district headquarters. The city covers an area of 5043 sq km. Gangapur, Ranthambhore and Sawai Madhopur are the cities in Sawai Madhopur district. Sawai Madhopur, named after Sawai Madho Singh I, the Maharaja of Jaipur, is a secluded small town in Rajasthan. Sawai Madhopur experiences a vast footfall of tourists annually.

The world-famous Ranthambhore National Park, with the largest population of tigers in the state, takes credit for this density of tourists here. Amareshwar Mahadeo Temple is one of the major religious attractions near Sawai Madhopur, situated on the road between Ranthambore and Sawai Madhopur. Amareshwar Mahadeo Temple is amidst beautiful green hills, & has emerged as a picnic spot for the residents of Sawai Madhopur. The temple, dedicated to Shree Adinath Bhagwan, is believed to be more than four hundred years old. According to legends, the temple has several miraculous powers, hence the name Chamatkari temple. Many Jain devotees visit this place to pay their respects to the deity. Chamatkari temple also attracts many tourists who come here to experience the magical and supernatural atmosphere of the temple.

Chauth Mata Temple is one of the most prominent temples of Sawai Madhopur, dedicated to Chauth Mata. The temple is on a hilltop about 35 km away from the city & attracts several devotees on various occasions. The temple is amidst beautiful green surroundings and meadows. The monument is beautifully crafted out of white marble stone and shows the traits of the traditional Rajputana style of architecture, with intricate inscriptions on the walls and ceiling. The temple was built by Maharaja Bhim Singh, who brought the idol of Chauth Mata from the nearby village of Panchala.

The temple is a Nagara architectural style temple, with a curvilinear structure built slicing a hillock. The temple structure has multiple towers and many colorful chhatris and canopied. The sanctum sanctorum enshrines the image of Kaala Gora Bhairav Ji. It is a unique temple and probably one of the few temples in the country that practices Tantric Kriyas. The significant feature of the temple is that the main deity at Kala Gora Bhairav Temple is Bhairav, who is usually at the entrance of the Hindu temples across the country as per custom.

Khandar Fort, located in the Khandar Tehsil of Sawai Madhopur, is one of the must-see tourist attractions in Sawai Madhopur. It's an ancient fort situated about 40 km from the city. It lies near  Ranthambore National Park, a very famous wildlife sanctuary. Lying on a vertical hill fort has three big doors at the entrance. One of the ruling kings of Khandar Fort was known for having won every battle he had ever fought. One of the dynasties who ruled this fort was the Sisodia clan of Mewar. This fort has several water bodies inside the premises, including two tanks and seven ponds.

Padam Talao is the largest of all the lakes, located inside the park, and the beautiful red sandstone Jogi Mahal is at the very edge of this lake. A gigantic banyan tree, considered India's second-largest, is near the lake.

The water of the two rivers at Rameshwaram Ghat is full of aquatic life, with several fishes, crocodiles, alligators, and even endangered river dolphins. Tourists also have another reason to visit the Rameshwaram Ghat, as it has several old temples nearby. 
 
8: Ranthambore Fort

The Ranthambore Fort is a mighty fort built in 944 AD, situated on top of a hill 700 ft above the surrounding plains. The fort lies between the Vindhya Plateau and the Aravalli Hills. It sprawls over a geographical area of about 7 km in circumference. The fort houses various Hindu and Jain temples, along with a mosque. A large variety of residential and migratory birds can be seen here due to the presence of several water bodies around the fort. Tourists visiting this fort can also enjoy a splendid view of the Ranthambore National Park from here. This historical building was under the possession of the Mughals in 1528. In the 17th century, the Mughals gifted the fort to the Maharaja of Jaipur.

The Ranthambore National Park, one of the largest wildlife reserves in North India, was once a princely game conserve. In 1955 established as a wildlife sanctuary and was later 1973 included in the first phase of Project Tiger. The Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary was awarded national park status in 1980. Besides tigers, the national park serves as a natural habitat for various wild animals, such as jackals, leopards, hyenas, marsh crocodiles, wild boars, and different varieties of deer. In addition, aquatic vegetation is abundant in the park. This wildlife reserve sprawls over an area of 392 sq km. Known for tiger conservation, it is one of the best national parks in the country. Tourists can use the roads to pass through the park, constructed and maintained by the forest authority.

Bhagwatgarh is a small village located southwest of Sawai Madhopur district in Rajasthan. It is 25 km away from Sawai Madhopur, encircled by ranges of mountains southwest & has river Banas running along the northwest. Sapt-Kund is a historical place. There is a Shiva temple and seven ponds. The famous Shiva temple is known as Arneshwar Mahadev.

Shiwar Temple, known as the Dushmeshwar Mahadeo temple, is one of the major religious attractions near Sawai Madhopur. The temple is in the nearby small town of Shiwar, famous for its beautiful hill fort. The one-hour journey from Sawai Madhopur to Shiwar would seem justified when one sees the beautiful architecture of the famous Dushmeshwar temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple attracts several devotees who go there to seek the blessings of the Hindu god. Located around 40 km from Sawai Madhopur, tourists can easily reach the town of Shiwar by a hired taxi or bus service.
