Regarded as one of the seven sacred cities for Hindus, Ujjain is an ancient city located on the banks of the Shipra River in Madhya Pradesh. The city is one of the venues for the Kumbh Mela. The temple town is also called Ujjayini or Avanti and finds mentioned in the Hindu epic Mahabharata as the capital city of the Avanti Kingdom. 

Ujjain is one of those four cities in India where the famous pilgrim fair Maha Kumbh, organized since ancient times.

Local Transport - The major source of intracity transportation in Ujjain is via shared auto rickshaws given the fact that they costs not more than Rs 10 and take to preferred destination comfortably. They ply between major parts of the city, hence making all the parts of Ujjain accessible. Another source is the normal auto rickshaw, which is a tad bit costlier but it assures utmost comfort. Tongas also ply in this city and are easily affordable. If one cannot find themselves a rickshaw or a tongas, they can always travel by buses which cost reasonable per ride.
