Varanasi is a city as old as time & a district in Uttar Pradesh, located along the banks of Holy River Ganga & is the oldest living city in the world. Varanasi, also known as Kashi, holds high religious importance, especially for Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain communities. It is also known as the Spiritual Capital of India. Varanasi grew as an important industrial center, famous for its muslin and silk fabrics, perfumes, ivory works, and sculpture. Here Lord Buddha is believed to have founded Buddhism around 528 BC when he gave his first sermon. Both Hindus and non-Hindus from around the world visit Varanasi for different reasons. Although Varanasi is popularly called the city of Shiva and Ganga, it is also the city of Temples, the city of Ghats, the city of Music, and the center for Moksha.

1: Ganges
GANGES
The Ganges are popularly known as The Holy River Ganga. The Ganges is the most sacred river to Hindus & worshipped as the goddess Ganga. All sins are said to be washed away by taking a dip in this Holy River.
 
2: Kashi Vishwanath Temple
KASHI VISHWANATH TEMPLE
Kashi Vishvanath is a majestic temple located almost 5 km from the Varanasi railway station and 6 km from the BHU & one of the most important Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva & is among the 12 jyotirlingas in India. It was constructed in 1780 by the Maratha Monarch, Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of the Indore. The gold used to cover the two domes of the temple was donated by the Punjab Kesari, the Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It attracts devotees from all across the world.
 
3: Dashashwamedh Ghat
DASHASHWAMEDH GHAT
Dashashwamedh is the main ghat in Varanasi on the Ganges river, close to Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The literal meaning of the Dashashwamedh is the ghat(river front) of the ten sacrificed horses. A group of priests daily in the evening at this ghat perform beautiful Ganga Aarti, dedicated to Lord Shiva, River Ganga, Sun, Agni, and the whole universe & which is a must to see.
 
4: Assi Ghat
ASSI GHAT
Assi ghat is on the confluence of rivers Ganga and Asi & is the southernmost ghat in Varanasi, where pilgrims bathe before paying their homage to Lord Shiva. According to legends, Goddess Durga had thrown her sword after slaying the demon, Shumbha- Nishumbha. The place where the sword had fallen resulted in a stream known as the Assi River. Popularly it is known for being a place where long-term students, researchers, and tourists live.
 
5: Ramnagar Fort
RAMNAGAR FORT
The Fort is in Kila Rd, Crossing, Ram Nagar, near the Ganga River on its eastern bank, opposite the Tulsi Ghat, about 14 km from Varanasi, built by Kashi Naresh Raja Balwant Singh with sandstone in the year 1750. The most significant construction within Ramnagar Fort is the renowned Durbar hall & which houses the Ved Vyasa shrine, a residential compound for the king. The Fort has a museum that exhibits an array of old armors, guns, antique clocks, ivory work, swords, medieval costumes, vintage cars, gold & silver royal palki, and silver elephant saddles carved out of silver, furniture, and much more.
 
6: Ashoka Pillar
ASHOKA PILLAR
Ashoka Pillar, known as Saranath Pillar, is situated at Sarnath Deer Park, around 10km north of Varanasi. The pillar, erected in front of the main stupa, is where Ashoka sat & meditated & is one among the many Pillars inscribed by the Mauryan King Ashoka between about 243 B.C and 242 B.C. The circular abacus built over a bell-shaped lotus shows the figures of four running animals an elephant, a galloping horse, a bull, and a lion. These animals get separated by overriding the 24-spoked dharma chakra, renowned as Ashoka Chakra. The national flag of India has a picture of the dharma chakra at its center. The animals symbolize the four different phases of Gautama Buddha's life.   
 
7: Chaukhandi Stupa
CHAUKHANDI STUPA
Chaukhandi Stupa is a Buddhist stupa in Sarnath, located at Rishpattan Rd, Near Sarnath Museum, Sarnath, about 13 km from Varanasi. Chaukhandi Stupa was built to mark where Lord Buddha met his first disciples as he traveled from Bodh Gaya to Sarnath. Chaukandi Stupa is opened from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. 
 
8: Deer Park
DEER PARK
The Park is at a distance of 10 km from Varanasi city in Sarnath. On being moved by his sacrificial zeal, the king made the place a free-roaming ground & thus known as Mrigadava (Deerpark). Here in Deerpark, he delivered his first sermon, set in motion the wheel of Law (maha- Dharmachakra Pravartan). It encompasses the beliefs and practices established by the teachings of Lord Buddha.

KAGYU TIBETAN MONASTERY (HERE LORD BUDDHA TURNED  WHEELS OF DHARMA & OUTLINED THE 4 NOBEL TRUTHS)
The majestic Kagyu Tibetan Monastery, also known as Vajra Vidya Institute(means Indestructible Knowledge) in Sarnath, about 10 km from Varanasi, was built to preserve Tibetan Buddhism and maintain the Karma Kagyu tradition in India.
 
10: Dhamekh Stupa
DHAMEKH STUPA
The place is at Dharmapala Rd, Singhpur, Sarnath, about 13 km from Varanasi is a massive stupa. Dhamekh Stupa, constructed by the great Mauryan king, Ashoka, is cylindrical, built partly in stone and partly in brick & the stone facing the lower part is decorated with delicate floral carvings of the Gupta period. 
 
11: Mulagandha Kuti Vihar
MULAGANDHA KUTI VIHAR
The place is close to Ashoka Pillar & is a welcome break from architectural monotony in Sarnath. The temple was made by Kosetsu Nosu, Japan’s foremost painter, and is a rich repository of Buddhist literature & the ancient Mulagandha Kuti temple is among the brick ruins of Sarnath. 
 
12: Sarnath Museum
SARNATH MUSEUM
Sarnath Museum is the oldest site museum of the Archaeological Survey of India. It houses a great collection of artifacts & a rich collection of sculptures comprising numerous Buddha and Bodhisattva images and remains from the past & also exhibits the Buddhist Culture recovered from the site of Lord Buddha’s first sermon at deer park Mrigadava in Sarnath. 13: Tulsi Manas Temple
TULSI MANAS TEMPLE
The Temple is extremely elegant, located on Durga Kund Sankat Mochan Rd, Near Jalan, Durga Kund, Tulsi Manas Mandir Colony, Naria & is one of the most famous temples in the holy city. The ancient Hindu epic Ramcharitmanas was originally written at this place by Hindu poet-saint Goswami Tulsidas in the 16th century. It is made of white marble and looks attractive with a beautiful garden and images of Lord  Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman. 
 
14: Durga Kund
DURGA KUND
Durga Mandir, also known as Durga Kund Mandir, is on Sankat Mochan road in the Bhelupura area. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Durga. It's believed that the statue of Goddess Durga is not human-made & appeared on its own in the temple. Temple is open from 4 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 11 pm.

SANKAT MOCHAN TEMPLE
The temple is on Sankat Mochan Road, Saket Nagar, Nagwa Lanka, Varanasi & is one of the sacred temples dedicated to the Hindu God Hanuman. The temple is also known as the Monkey temple because many monkeys are inside the premises. The birthday of lord Hanuman is celebrated in fanfare, during which a Shobha yatra, a procession from Durgakund adjacent to the historic Durga Temple to Sankat Mochan, is carried out.

RAVIDASS TEMPLE
The temple is at Seer Govardhanpur, Varanasi & is the birthplace of Guru Ravidass is the place of pilgrimage headquarters for followers of the Ravidasi religion from communities. The foundation stone of this temple was laid on 14 June 1965 on Ashad Sankranti by Sant Hari Dass.
