By Bus - There are various buses to and from York. The National Express York operates the major buses. There are also frequent buses from Whitby, Scarborough, Driffield, Pocklington, Bridlington and Helmsley.
By Road - Coming from the South, the easiest route is to take the M1 northbound to junction 32 which would eventually lead to the York Outer Ring Road. York is well connected by road from Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Northumberland and south eastern Scotland.
By Flight - There are no airports in York and the only option is to reach a nearby airport. The geographically closest airport is the Leeds Bradford International airport which is located 31 miles from the city by road. Travelling to other airports like Manchester, Doncaster Sheffield or Humberside is a much better option.
By Rail - One of the main hubs of UK rail network is York and it has a large range of services and destinations. The station itself is really beautiful and was voted as the nicest station in UK in 2007. The Virgin Trains East Coast provides several services from York and there are many trains running from Edinburgh and London.
Getting Around - The best way for exploring the city is by foot. There are different city walks conducted across the city which give a better overview of the city. Getting around the city can also be done by a car but it is always advised not to do so. York is one of the greatest cycle friendly cities in England and there is an extensive network of cycle routes in and around the city.
