Agra Fort is the former imperial residence of the Mughals & also a UNESCO World Heritage site, located in Rakabganj, about 2.5 km northwest of the Taj Mahal. Agra Fort was originally a brick fort known as Badalgarh, held by Raja Badal Singh.
Mirza Ghiyas-ud-din or Ghiyas Beg (later known as Itimad-ud-Daulah) has a special place in the chronicles of both history & as well as architecture. The tomb is a Mughal mausoleum also popularly known as the Jewel Box or Baby Taj as it looks like a smaller version of the Taj Mahal & was built between 1622 to 1628.
The Garden complex, situated on the opposite bank of the Taj Mahal, is known as Mehtab Bagh, also known as Moonlight Garden, a little-known best viewing spot of the Taj Mahal. The Garden complex is a four-compartment garden design opposite the monument.
This sanctuary, located 77 kilometers south of Agra, was created in 1979 to reintroduce the Gavialis gangeticus (Gharial) crocodilian species. The river Chambal supports eight rare turtle species out of the 26 found in the country & is one of the cleanest rivers in the country. The Chambal Safari is to acquaint visitors with a land that has retained its unique landscapes, rugged charm, and rare wildlife.
Musamman Burj, also known as the Saman Burj or the Shah-Burj, is an octagonal tower near the Diwan-e-Khas (hall of private audience) in Agra Fort. Mumtaz Mahal was Shah Jahan's beloved queen, and Musamman Burj was her palace. Shah Burj contains elaborate alcoves and delicate meshwork.
The Scenic Lake is at Mathura Delhi Highway, Near Runakata, Near Walter World-Dolfin, Arsena, about 20 km from Agra, and was declared National Bird Sanctuary on 27 March 1991 by U.P. Forest Department. There are artificially created islands for shelter & breeding grounds for the migratory birds and are home to nearly two dozen migratory and resident birds. The place inspired the famed poet Soordas to compose the Bhakti Kavya, one of the finest devotional poetry ever written.
Airport - Air Force Station Agra at VIP Rd, Ajeet Nagar Gate, Kheria Mode, Ajeet Nagar, Idgah Colony, serves the city. Another major airport close to city is Indra Gandhi International Airport, Delhi about 219 kms from Agra.
Railway Station - The main riailway juction that erves the city is Agra Cantt - North Central Railways. Other railway stations in agra are Raja ki Mandi (North Central Railways), Agra Fort (North Central Railways), Agra City (North Central Railways), Idgah (North Central Railways), Yamuna Bridge (North Central Railways).
Bus Service - Intra State Bus Service is easily available from the Bus Stand is in Idgah Colony very close to both the Idgah Railway Station as well as the Agra Cantt,Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) operates hi-tech, deluxe, semi-deluxe and ordinary buses from here. Other private luxury bus services are alo avialable.
