Bijnor, also called as Bijnaur, Bijnour is the capital city of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh and also a municipal board. India also called as Bharat was named after the mighty Emperor Bharatha who was born in Bijnor. King Bharatha ruled almost all parts of India, under whose kingdom the happiness flourished among the people. King Bharatha spends his early childhood days in Bijnor district. Bijnor district is bounded by river Ganga and Ramganga on its borders. Bijnor was formerly a part of Mughal Empire commanded by Emperor Akbar. By the 18th century, the Rohilla Pashtuns gained their freedom from the Mughals and established their rule in Bijnor which was overthrown by the Marathas. Rohillas waited for their opportunity to win the Marathas and to retain their powers back in Bijnor. By 1772, the Rohillas made a treaty with the Nawab of Oudh to sack the Marathas out of their place in exchange of money, the Nawab of Oudh was successful in expelling the Marathas and placing the Rohillas in power, but the Rohillas leaders failed to pay the Nawab of Oudh the agreed sum of money, so in 1774 the Nawab of Oudh with the help of British East India company sacked Rohillas rule beyond the Ganges and established his rule in Bijnor, however, in the very same year the Nawab of Oudh gave up his powers on Bijnor to the British East India company which ruled Bijnor and its fellow parts till 1857 after which the Nawad of Najibabad established their rule, unfortunately next year the Nawab of Najibabad was overthrown by the British East India company. From 1858 till the Indian Independence Bijnor was under the rule of East India Company.
