Poompuhar, or Puhar as it is otherwise known, is a town in the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. It was famous in ancient times as a bustling port known as Kaveri Puham Pattinam. It was also the temporary capital of the Chola Dynasty that once ruled over Tamil Nadu. Poompuhar is located close to the spot where the river Cauveri flows out into the sea. Most of the original town was destroyed in 500 AD, apparently by a Tsunami. Even so, several important terracotta figurines and pottery from ancient times have been discovered from Poompuhar. It is also known to be the oldest inhabited area in Tamil Nadu. Poompuhar of today is a bustling town of some 86000 men, women and children.
 

Sikkal Singara Velan Temple is one of the most popular Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Murugan and a contender for the unofficial seventh Padaiveedu of Murugan, along with the popular Arupadaiveedu. It is one of the rare traditional Hindu temples that have both Shiva and Vishnu deities in the same complex. The temple is located in the village of Sikkal, near Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu. It is 5 kilometres in the west from Nagapattinam and 18 kilometers in the east from Thiruvarur on the way to Nagapatptinam.
 

Thirumullaivasal village is located in Sirkali Tehsil of Nagapattinam district in Tamil Nadu, India. It is situated 13 kms away from sub district headquarter Sirkali and 78 kms away from district headquarter Nagapattinam. As per 2009 stats, Thirumullaivasal village is also a gram panchayat. Sirkali is nearest town to Thirumullaivasal.
 

The Naganatha Swamy Temple or Kethu Sthalam is a Hindu temple in the village of Keezhaperumpallam, 2 kilometres from Poompuhar. The presiding deity is Ketu, a shadow planet. However, the main idol in the temple is that of Naganatha Swamy or Shiva. The temple has a 2 tier rajagopuram surrounded by two prakaram the closed precincts of a temple. Keezhaperumpallam is one of the nine Navagraha sthalas located in the Cauvery Delta region dedicated to shadow planet Ketu.
 

Nagore Dargah is a world famous dargah located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in India. The dargah is considered as one of the most auspicious dargah’s all over the country and also across the globe. Hazrath Syed Shahul Hameed Quadri is the person behind the significance of this dargah. The dargah is not too far from Thanjavur. It is situated at a distance of seventy eight kilometres from Thanjavur. Moreover, one who wishes to come from the Capital of the state, Chennai has to take a five hour drive. The masjid is more than five hundred years old, and it has been in a southern architectural type. It has a resemblance of all the Hindu temples in that area.
 

Situated on the Coromandel Coast of Tamil Nadu Velankanni is a spiritual destination frequented by people of all faiths and religions. Located in the district of Nagapattinam, Velankanni is home to the Shrine of Virgin Mary. The Shrine is dedicated to the Madonna of Velankanni, often referred to as Our Lady of Health. From Chennai, Velankanni lies about 325 kilometres to the south and is easily accessible. Velankanni is often called the the land of miracles, a name that stems from the many miracles rumoured to have taken place in the town. The best season to visit Velankanni is between October and March.
