The church was built in 1661 by the Portuguese Viceroyalty of India. It is a roman catholic church situated in the main square of old Goa. The church has a museum set up by the Archaeological Survey of India in 1964 and contains sculptures and paintings that show the beautiful and rich history of the land. This church built with laterite has attracted thousands of pilgrims and tourists, catholic and non-Catholic, to marvel at its Tuscan and Manueline fundamentals of architecture.
