Mahakali Temple

The Mahakali temple, which is a famous pilgrimage centre for both Hindus and Muslims alike, is located in Pavagadh at about 53 kms away from Vadodara in Gujarat. This is one temple in Gujarat that witnesses a lot of pilgrimage activities daily. Thousands of pilgrims visit the temple each day for the blessings of Goddess Mahakalika, the principle Goddess of the temple. Maa Mahakalika, in spite of her fearful appearance, is believed to have the power to fulfil the wishes of her devotees. The temple also is considered as a great educational excursion spot. The temple is built in two floors, the lower floor where the idol of Maa Mahakali is situated and the top floor which is sacred to Muslims. It is also considered as one of the 51 Shakti Peeths.
