About this place

Brahmapureeswarar Temple is the most famous temple in Seerkazhi. The temple is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and his entourage Thirumala Nayaki. The temple has three shrines of Lord Shiva. It also has two other main deities called Thoniappar and Sattainathar. The Brahmapureeswarar Temple has 22 different theerthams or pilgrim sites and one of the main teertham is the Brahma Tirtha. The magnificent temple is surrounded by Gopurams at each side. According to legends, once Lord Brahma once had a phase of arrogance and pride after having sent Bali Chakravarti to hell. To avoid the undesirable consequences this would bring about, Lord Shiva posing as a hunter made him his target to bring down his pride. Brahma realized his folly and repented. It all happened at this site and therefore, the name Brahmapureeswarar Temple.
