The Shahid Smarak is one of the oldest war memorials built in Meerut. The white marble structure is 30 metres high and was built to commemorate the war martyrs of India. It is specially associated with the first war of freedom or revolt of 1857. Several Indians who visit the monument to pay their tribute to those who died for the country on special National Days like the Indian Independence Day and Republic Day.
