The Ikon Gallery has been an unmissable meeting place for Birmingham's art scene for decades and remains as top of the art as ever. By entering this magnificent reconstructed neo Gothic school one will face the energy and the gaze of contemporary art. The gallery's debut dates back to 1964, when a small group of artists and supporters met and imagined a new concept in order to challenge the world of local art a gallery without walls. They wanted to provide a venue for an art that was both adventurous and accessible to a wide audience. Their first location was a glass walled kiosk on the Bulllring. Today, one can find the gallery among the offices and flashy restaurants of the Brindley place area to the west of Birmingham.
