Kaminarimon or the thunder gate is the entrance gate to Asakusa's famous Sensoji Temple and a symbol of Asakusa. The Nakamise shopping street leads from Kaminarimon to the temple grounds. For hundreds of years, Kaminarimon has served as a supply centre for visitors to the nearby temple. Enter through the imposing gate and wander down the busy street, lined with low storefronts and accentuated by lights and decorative signs. Tourists will find snack foods, religious supplies and plenty of knick knacks along the way, don't miss the chance to grab a traditional souvenir like a folding fan kimono or wooden doll.
