About this place

This oldest museum in the region of Saurashtra is a must visit destination in Gujarat. It accommodates calm greenish environment and the priciest interesting artefacts and paintings. Located in the Queen Victoria Memorial Institute Building in Jubilee Gardens, it is named after Colonel John Watson who held the position of the political agent of Kathiawar Agency during 1881 and 1889. While the museum houses an array of Watson's own collections it also includes an interesting numismatics section, artefacts from the ancient history and the Mohenjo-Daro era and textiles and jewellery used by people of the local tribes to name a few. The museum is open between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm daily and is closed on alternate Sundays and general holidays.
