About this place

Vasai Fort is also known as Bassein or Bacaim in the Vasai taluka of the District of Palghar, Konkan Division. The Portuguese built Bassein Fort to strengthen their naval superiority over the Arabian Sea. The Fort witnessed the victory of Marathas under the leadership of Chimajiappa against the Portuguese. The Fort is now in a ruined condition.
