The site is also known by the name of Second Hampi and supports the faith among the two groups of the Hindu religion, the Saivas and the Vaishnavas. Among their own group, the Saivas called this site Madhya Kailasam while the Vaishnavas titled it as Madhya Ahobilam. Pushpagiri is the only region in the state of Andhra Pradesh to have the holy peetham of Sankaracharya.
