Simhachalam Temple

Visakhapatnam

About this place

As per the belief of the Hindu religion, an east-facing entrance brings luck and prosperity while the west one brings victory, and luckily the Simhachalam temple faces west. The temple is situated among hills covered with cashew trees, shrubs, and mango groves. Pilgrims visit the temple to bestow their offerings to the auspicious deities. The word 'Simha' means lion in Sanskrit & 'Adri' or 'Achala' means hill. The lion man incarnation of Lord Vishnu is the presiding deity of the temple & is one of the eighteen shrines of Lord Narasimha. During Akshaya Tritiya, it is once again covered with sandalwood paste since it can only be seen without sandalwood for 12 hours each year.
