Before even looking at the works one will be struck by the splendour of the building that hosts the Victoria Art Gallery. Visit the two galleries at the street level each featuring the work of contemporary guest artists. The program changes every six to twelve weeks. Discover the exhibitions of the small gallery on the ground floor and the complete exhibitions in the large space of the same level. At the top of the richly decorated staircase is the rotunda, a circular vestibule. A relaxation area is available for those wishing to take a cup of tea or coffee. On the ceiling admire the dome in woodwork enhanced with gilding where the signs of the zodiac appear. Also see six Bassae columns made of Devonshire marble and several marble sculptures, original elements preserved since the construction of the building in 1897. From here, the visit will continue to the small gallery on the upper floor which houses the decorative arts of the museum.
