Uttara Kannada Karwar
Sonda, also known as Sode, is a revered temple town in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, situated near the renowned temple town of Sirsi. Perched at an impressive altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, Sonda held great significance during the reign of the Swadi Kings from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Sri Vadiraja established the Vadiraja Mutt in Sonda, aiming to propagate the Dvaita philosophy of Sri Madhvacharya. The temple within the mutt premises is dedicated to Lord Trivikrama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The sanctum houses a beautiful image of Trivikrama, while outside rests a stone chariot utilized during temple festivities. Sonda village is also home to an ancient fort adorned with small, historic cannons. Alongside the Vadiraja Mutt, two other mutts, namely the Akalank Mutt and the Swarnavalli Mutt, also grace this spiritual enclave.
