Gain insight into William Herschel's scientific and astronomic discoveries at Herschel Museum of Astronomy. The Georgian house was once the residence of Herschel and his wife Caroline in the 1700s and today is dedicated to astronomy. In 1781 Herschel discovered the planet Uranus from his home, the first discovery of a planet since Ancient Greece it expanded the known universe by two times. Walk through the house which has preserved much of the original decor and furniture. On the ground floor tourists can see the brass replica of Herschel's reflecting telescope from which he discovered the planet. As going through the upper levels of the gallery tourists will see many heirlooms such as William's travel diary Caroline's clothing and the family's visitor’s book.
