Budapest History Museum

Budapest

About this place

Budapest History Museum located in Royal Palace in Buda is one of the country’s relatively newer institutions of the 19th century. The Budapest History Museum presents Budapest’s turbulent history up until the end of the communist era. Most of the collection was discovered during the excavation of the castle which has been built over several times and was revealed again during the Second World War. The museum attempts to give insights into the history of the whole Carpathian region. One of the oldest exhibits at the Budapest History Museum is the collection of 1000 year old deer antler hammers used as tools by ancient civilizations.  The museum deals with the artefacts of the era between the liberation of Buda from the Turks.
