Budapest
The Chain Bridge is a 19th century suspension bridge which crosses over the Danube River connecting the Buda and Pest sides of the city. The Chain Bridge was the first permanent bridge crossing the Danube in Budapest. The construction of the Chain Bridge was supported by Count Szechenyi, the very remarkable figure in Hungarian history. During WWII the Germans completely destroyed the bridge and following the war it was one of the first structures to be rebuilt. This Chain Bridge 375 mts long and 16 mts wide contains huge chains which connect the bridge's two towers and hence the name. The bridge towers are decorated with the Hungarian coat of arms and stone lion statues.
