About Nashik

Nashik sits on the Godavari river and is best known for hosting Kumbh Mela every 12 years, a Hindu pilgrimage. Nashik is situated in Maharashtra and is known as the Wine Capital of India, given the number of grapes it produces. It is around 180 km away from Mumbai and closes to 200 km from Pune. Napa Valley lies on the Western Ghats. Nashik was formerly the capital of the Satvahana Dynasty.

It's believed that Lord Ram spent 14 years of exile near Nashik at a place called, Tapovan. Here Lord Laksham cut off the nose of Shurpanakha, and hence this place came to be called Nasik, which translates to a Nose. Kalidas and Valmiki have spoken of Nashik in their works & the renowned philosopher of 150 BC, Plotemy, too mentioned Nashik. Nashik is famous for its production of grapes. The Sula Vineyard is a must-visit for keen wine tasters.

Given its location, the climate of Nashik is tropical, giving rise to extreme temperatures. As a result, the hot summers are generally avoided for traveling, while the cool winters make for a perfect getaway time. The monsoon season is also a beautiful time to be spent in this city, although this only poses a good option for rain lovers.

The Trimbakeshwar temple consists of one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. It's believed that anybody who visits Trimbakeshwar attains salvation. There is no sacred place like Trimbakeshwar, no river like the Godavari, and no mountain like Brahmagiri. The reason for its being so sacred is that the Godavari river originates in this place, & it's a place of Tri Sandhya Gayatri, the birthplace of Lord Ganesha & this is the holiest place to perform the Shraddha ceremony.
